If you don't receive the Official Tour of Britain Newsletter via email, then don't worry you've not missed out as you can now read it all here!

The Official Tour of Britain Newsletter

Welcome to the Official Tour of Britain Newsletter, presented by Outsourcery, the UK’s leading provider of unified communications and hosted IT solutions for business.

There are just over seven weeks until The Tour of Britain gets underway and the search for the successor to Edvald Boasson Hagen’s yellow jersey begins.

Eight exciting stages will then take The Tour from Rochdale to London, via Blackpool, Stoke-on-Trent, Wales, the South West, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, before finishing in the Olympic and Paralympic Borough of Newham.

Beginning the countdown to The Tour we’ve got a packed newsletter with details on the new Barclays Cycle Superhighways from our Partners Transport for London, all the information about volunteering at this year’s Tour of Britain; a recap on The Halfords Tour Series; and the chance to win two places in an official Tour of Britain race car by signing up to The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be confirming the identities of the teams and riders taking part in The Tour, while more detailed information on the route the race takes will be added to the official website, ensuring you have all the information you need to spectate at the roadside.

There’s nothing to match the exciting crowd atmosphere as a professional cycle race speeds past, so why not get out there and join the crowds as they cheer the riders in The Tour of Britain on? We look forward to seeing you there!

Barclays Cycle Superhighways

Barclays Cycle Superhighways are new cycle routes that run into central London from outer London to provide cyclists with safer, faster and more direct journeys into the city. The Superhighways are:

• Direct and continuous with easy to follow, clearly marked routes

• Comfortable and convenient with improved road surfaces and over 5,000 cycle parking spaces along or near the route

• Safer cycle lanes at least 1.5m wide, that will continue through junctions, with more space for cyclists and advanced stop lines at every traffic light to help you get ahead of traffic

The first two launched on 19th July, with ten more planned for the coming years. One of the first routes to have launched runs from Barking to Tower Gateway very close to Canary Wharf, this could be your best and quickest way to get to the event.

Brush up on your on-road cycling skills with Commuter Cycle Training or join a free guided cycle ride along one of the routes. The rides help cyclists get to know the new routes and will set off from strategic start points regularly.

Volunteers!

If you want to be a part of The Tour of Britain in 2010 then now is your chance! The application process to be a volunteer on Britain’s biggest professional cycle race is now open, so if you fancy getting close to the action and being a part of The Tour of Britain team, get signing up!

Volunteers are needed at every stage start and finish, as well as at every King of the Mountains and Sprint point, so there should be a location to suit everyone.

Roles vary from marshalling crossing points to assisting with team parking, plus many other roles. Exact duties will be informed on the day.

As a thank you for giving up your time and helping put on The Tour of Britain, every volunteer will receive a Tour of Britain Goody Bag on completion of their duties, while everyone will be entered into a prize draw to win a signed Tour of Britain leader’s jersey and VIP Hospitality at the 2011 Tour.

We are delighted to be entering into the second year of our successful partnership with The Tour of Britain.
