Team Raleigh
Although 2010 will be Team Raleigh’s debut in The Tour of Britain, they do include top British stage racer Dan Fleeman among their ranks. Fleeman finished seventh in the 2008 edition of the race while with the AN Post squad, and will be hoping for another top ten finish this time around.
Alongside Fleeman only Tom Barras and Welsh Champion Dale Appleby have ridden The Tour of Britain before, meaning the Raleigh line-up will include several Tour debutants. Having won the Welsh title back in May, Appleby will be looking to impress on Stage Three as The Tour heads south through mid-Wales.
Another hope for a good result is Daniel Shand, who has picked up several top ten stage placings in locations as diverse as Norway, Mallorca and Portugal so far this year, making him one to keep an eye on, while Australian Peter Smith provides variety from an all-British line-up.
Raleigh have a strong emphasis on stage racing, making The Tour of Britain the centrepiece of the year, so Chris Truett’s squad are sure to want to impress and get the Raleigh name featuring prominently in the ITV4 highlights show. The team have been racing abroad in a number of stage races as preparation, although a trip to the Vuelta Mexico in April was curtailed by the volcanic ash cloud.
