UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team

The California based team have grown to UCI ProContinental status in 2011 with an aim of riding a Grand Tour in 2012 and achieving World Tour status in 2013. A number of new riders joined the team for this season as their international programme expands, including a first ever appearance in Britain.

Among them are Boy van Poppel, a former Junior World Cyclo Cross Champion and a son of legendary Dutch sprinter Jean-Paul Van Poppel, and Canadian Christian Meier, who finished in the top ten of last year’s Tour of Britain, and Brit Charlie Wegelius.

Most notable signing is former Gerolsteiner and Milram rider Robert Forster, who has won stages in both the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana in the past, and so far in 2011 at the Tours of Qinghai Lake, Langkawi and Asturias.

Unsurprisingly the team also have a number of American riders, with Scott Zwizanski one to watch out for in the time trial after good performances against the clock so far in 2011.

Forster isn’t the only rider capable of sprinting to victory, Hilton Clarke is a highly capable sprinter, while compatriots Karl Menzies and Rory Sutherland are also both capable of top results.
