Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team

After their memorable Tour of Britain debut in 2010 when they took the race to HTC and Sky, winning two stages, two jerseys and the plaudits for their attacking riding, Vacansoleil return to The Tour.

Twelve months on and the team are now at the World Tour level and have made their Tour de France debut, with new signings that include former Tour of Flanders winner Stijn Devolder and Tour of Britain favourite Thomas De Gendt, who has continued his rise through the sport with some impressive 2011 results, including stage wins at Paris Nice and the Tour de Suisse.

World Tour status means Vacansoleil will also be committed to racing in Spain and Canada during The Tour of Britain so expect to see a line-up mixing the established names with the not so familiar.

Johnny Hoogerland won fans for his attacking style during last year’s Tour of Britain on his way to the Mountains title, before winning even more followers after his battling Tour de France ride that saw him gain notoriety after being knocked off his bike by a car.

With all-rounders like Frederik Veuchelen, Bjorn Leukemans and and sprinters like Borut Bozic and Romain Feillu have riders capable of winning on most terrains, plus a number of promising youngsters like Barry Markus, Rob Ruijgh and Pim Ligthart.

The team boast plenty of Tour of Britain winners in their roster – De Gendt, Hoogerland and Michal Golas have all won jerseys in the race, while Feillu was the 2007 overall winner and both Wout Poels and Bozic are stage winners in the UK. Expect the blue and yellow team to do their best to add to that list in 2011.
