2022 stages update

Race organisers have provided this update on the status of the three cancelled stages from the Tour of Britain 2022.

Race organisers have provided this update on the status of the three cancelled stages from the Tour of Britain 2022.

ISLE OF WIGHT

Given its geographical position and extensive logistical operation required to move the entire event onto an island, we have long agreed with Isle of Wight Council that hosting the first or final stage of the race makes the most sense for all parties.

As arrangements with Manchester City Council and the Welsh Government relating to the 2023 Grand DĂ©part and final stage respectively were already in place prior to September 2022 (thereby removing the possibility of the Isle of Wight hosting one of those stages), discussions centered around a potential visit to the Isle of Wight in future years continue.

DORSET

Following extensive meetings with Dorset County Council, and in light of their planned events programme and commitments for 2023, hosting a stage of the Tour of Britain there this year was not possible.

We remain in discussions with them about the opportunity to take the race to the county in future years.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE

A Tewkesbury to Gloucester stage, originally intended to take place on Friday 9 September 2022 (which became a National Day of Mourning) was held on Saturday 9 September 2023.
