Brigg came alive with Tour of Britain fever at the weekend as it hosted the local launch for North Lincolnshire’s stage of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain 2017.

Last month it was announced that North Lincolnshire would host Stage Three of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain on 5 September 2017 with the race expected to attract tens of thousands of spectators when it comes to the area later this year.

At the launch event it was outlined in more detail the route the riders will tackle through North Lincolnshire with a number of activities and talks to explain how the community and local businesses can get involved as the race comes to the area.

Doncaster-born Madison Genesis rider, Connor Swift, joined a busy market place to talk all things Tour of Britain with a host of excited local residents. The local rider is hoping to compete in the Tour of Britain this year for the very first time.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“We’re so excited for communities across our area to get behind the OVO Energy Tour of Britain and want to see decorated bicycles, bunting, banners and street parties popping up to celebrate it coming to North Lincolnshire.

“The North Lincolnshire stage will cover over 112 miles of our small but beautiful county. This makes it perfect for spectators as they will have the chance to see the riders in multiple locations along the route.

“North Lincolnshire is becoming increasingly known for outdoor activities, particularly cycling, and hosting the OVO Energy Tour of Britain this year will help to inspire and engage the next generation of cyclists in our area.”

The OVO Energy Tour of Britain is British Cycling’s premier road cycling event, giving cycling fans the opportunity to see the world’s best teams and riders competing on their door step, taking place between Sunday 3 and Sunday 10 September 2017.
