Canyon Eisberg’s team for this year’s OVO Energy Tour of Britain combines experience alongside three race debutants.

The British team, who won the OVO Energy Tour Series for the first time in May, will begin the UK’s largest annual sporting event with a number of objectives.

Their line-up features Andy Tennant, who has previously ridden eight editions of the race; he placed 20th overall in 2010 and has recorded seven top-10 stage finishes to date. Dexter Gardias and Rory Townsend return to the race after making their debuts with the team in 2017.

Kiwi Ryan Christensen, Alex Paton and Max Stedman (pictured below at the 2018 British Road Race Championships) will make their race debut when Stage One departs from Pembrey Country Park on Sunday 2 September.

The team’s preparations for the race saw Stedman (who will be on near “home” roads during Stage Two in Devon – he studied at the University of Exeter) finish second in the Rydeale GP in Yorkshire on Sunday.

Canyon Eisberg owner, manager and sports director Tim Elverson said: “I am excited to be on the run in to the Tour of Britain now.

“The guys have finished the British calendar well with Max producing a superb ride in the Ryedale Grand Prix. All that’s left is the Tour of Britain and we can’t wait to get started. We are really, really looking forward to it.

“I’ve picked a team with the balance to get the most out of the stages which best suit us and the most out of the race. Hopefully, that is what the selection reflects and we will see what we can do from there.

Stedman will make his OVO Energy Tour of Britain bow this September. He told the Canyon Eisberg website: “I don’t really know what to expect from my first Tour of Britain. It is going to be hard. It is a stacked startlist, with three of the top five from the Tour de France!

“Maybe 10th to 20th on GC would be a good ride. I know it’s a cliche, but, to be honest, I am quite excited just to take it all in and take each day as it comes.

“It will be good to show myself over eight days. It is a big race with some really cool stages, so it is a great platform and a chance to put yourself in the spotlight.”
