A Nelson town centre sandwich shop is relishing the opportunity to draw in some extra trade when the Aviva Tour of Britain powers through on Monday 7 September.

Shirley Rodgers who owns and runs Relish in Market Street is coming up with a raft of winning offers to pull in hungry spectators.

“On the day of the race, anyone who buys a sandwich will get a delicious cupcake thrown in for free.

“We’ll also be selling Tour themed meal deals for children and we’ll have a special offer for a hot drink and cake combo.

“The meal deals will include whistles so that the children can give the cyclists a really good welcome as they come through,” she explained.

The race is expected to come through Nelson town centre at around 3.15pm before heading to Colne for the dramatic finish.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “It’s fantastic to hear that local businesses are doing all they can to make the most of the extra footfall we’re expecting.

“I hope that others will get into the spirit of things and do all they can to welcome the cyclists and visitors to Pendle.

“Why not put on special Tour related offers or decorate your shop to encourage people in?

“We’re now starting to see bikes across the borough that residents, businesses and community groups have decorated and it would be great to see even more!”

Nelson Town Council is organising a family fun day in the town on the day of the race. Activities and entertainment will include a bouncy castle, rides, a brass band and food stalls.

Manchester Road, from the junction with Stanley Street to Leeds Roads (passing the Shuttle), will be closed from 6am until the race has passed through, although Pendle Council can arrange for businesses to have access until 11am.

Businesses who would like more information about access on Manchester Road, can contact Tricia Wilson, Project Co-ordinator, on (01282) 661051.
