Scotland’s John Archibald produced an unforgettable ride to finish third in Sunday’s HSBC UK | National Road Championships in Norwich, which also gave his Ribble Pro Cycling team maximum points in the OVO Energy Tour of Britain team qualification process.

Archibald was only beaten by Team INEOS riders Ben Swift and Ian Stannard in Norfolk just three days after he finished second in the HSBC UK | National Time Trial Championships in the county.

Standings after round nine

Despite scoring maximum points in this latest OVO Energy Tour of Britain team qualification round, Archibald’s Ribble Pro Cycling team are still unlikely to earn selection for the country’s most prestigious cycle race later this year (Saturday 7 – 14 September). They sit 19 points behind SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling – who sit fourth – with just five qualifying events remaining.

Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes and Madison Genesis continue to sit one-two in the table, while the battle for the final two qualifying positions continues to be incredibly tight. Team WIGGINS, SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling and Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK are separated by six points with five scores left to add.

OVO Energy Tour of Britain team qualification process

The qualification process has been devised once again by SweetSpot Group, organisers of the Tour of Britain, and British Cycling, with full consultation of competing teams throughout.

First introduced in 2016, the process establishes a fair and transparent selection of eligible British teams into the race, as well as ensuring full support of the HSBC UK | National Road and Circuit Series, OVO Energy Tour Series, HSBC UK | National Road Championships and the country’s UCI-ranked events each year.
