Rory Townsend’s victory in Sunday’s Circuit of the Mendips race gave his Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes maximum points for the fourth time in seven rounds of this year’s OVO Energy Tour of Britain qualification battle.

Townsend narrowly beat Scott Thwaites – who gave Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK their best result since the opening round – and five others from a seven-rider group who contested the finish in Bristol city centre.

Standings after round seven

Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes are in a commanding position at the halfway point of this year’s qualification process and look set to compete in the OVO Energy Tour of Britain for the third year running.

After a slow start, Madison Genesis are also on track to continue their 100% appearance record in the race, which dates back to 2013.

Team WIGGINS and Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK fill out the other two qualification places, but remain just two points clear of SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling.

OVO Energy Tour of Britain team qualification process

The qualification process has been devised once again by SweetSpot Group, organisers of the Tour of Britain, and British Cycling, with full consultation of competing teams throughout.

First introduced in 2016, the process establishes a fair and transparent selection of eligible British teams into the race, as well as ensuring full support of the HSBC UK | National Road and Circuit Series, OVO Energy Tour Series, HSBC UK | National Road Championships and the country’s UCI-ranked events each year.
