James Shaw was the best-placed domestic rider as his SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling squad enjoyed a successful Tour de Yorkshire, round three of this year’s OVO Energy Tour of Britain team qualification process.

SwiftCarbon sat outside the much-coveted top four qualification positions after the opening two rounds, but Shaw’s fifth place on his team’s home roads of Yorkshire lifts them up to second overall in the standings.

Standings after round three

Despite Yorkshire representing their worst qualification event result to date, Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes continue to top the rankings on 18 points, once each teams’ permitted one dropped score has been allowed for.

Swift Carbon have moved themselves up an incredibly competitive table, while Team Wiggins LE COL, Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK and Madison Genesis all sit on 14 points.

However, at the bottom, Ribble’s gap to the top four has increased from two points to eight, albeit with 11 scoring events still to come.

OVO Energy Tour of Britain team qualification process

The qualification process has been devised once again by SweetSpot Group, organisers of the Tour of Britain, and British Cycling, with full consultation of competing teams throughout.

First introduced in 2016, the process establishes a fair and transparent selection of eligible British teams into the race, as well as ensuring full support of the HSBC UK | National Road and Circuit Series, OVO Energy Tour Series, HSBC UK | National Road Championships and the country’s UCI-ranked events each year.
